Celebrations: Mother's Day

Here I am, 14-months old, sitting on the sand at Doheny State Park with Bernice (Grenfell) Currey, the mother who raised me.

Mother alway said they thought they were getting a redhead when they took me home from the hospital and into their lives.

Celebrations: Mother's Day

Here we are, the mother who raised me, Bernice Evangeline Grenfell Curry and I cavorting in the water in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The year was 1948 and I was one year old.*

Celebrations: Mother's Day

Mother's Day as we know here in the United States is only a little over 100 years old, not becoming nationally celebrated until 1914.*

In the badly faded image below taken in about 1918 you can barely make out my maternal grandmother Anna Delilah Webb Slater (1891-1973) on the left, it's easier to see my mother Alta Mae Slater (1917-1986) and great grandmother Rufina Ellen Tomlinson Slater (1863-1943).

The note was added by my grandmother. I'm not sure of the location of Camp Dix, but it certainly isn't the ones in Kentucky or New Jersey.
