Legacy 9 Has An Update (But Mapping Is Not Fixed, Yet)

Legacy 9 now has an update (changes/fixes listed here).  They haven't fixed the mapping problem but at least they now acknowledge the problem officially.

Getting There

It used to be over 57,000 people.  I've eliminated almost 6,000 since the beginning of this year.

I don't know what an ideal amount of people on a tree is, but I don't think it is anywhere near 57,000+.  I've been doing an overhaul of my tree, taking off people who don't seem to be relevant to my lines and updating, correcting, and otherwise upgrading all of the profiles on my tree.  It has taken a lot of time, but it was very necessary.  I was originally inspired to do this so that I could standardize my locations, making my tree more functional for the Legacy 9 software I purchased.  Now I'm hoping to finish this upgrade by the end of the year.  We'll see if it happens that soon.

Free Webinar on Cleaning Up Legacy: Dates, Searching, and Tagging

I've been going all guns blazing on cleaning up my genealogical database, which I imported into my new Legacy 9 program from Ancestry.  We have a good 7 years of work to clean up so it is taking forever, but I get more and more excited by the possibilities, especially with tagging.

Geoff Rasmussen hosted this Legacy Family Tree Virtual User's Group Meeting webinar on July 11, 2014, covering dates, searching, and tagging.

I am now a big fan of tags, plus the new hashtag feature in Legacy 9.

A Little Motivation for Tuesday: "What's New in Legacy Family Tree 9" by Geoff Rasmussen

My goodness this cleaning up of my Legacy database is taking forever, but it will pay off in the end.

It's funny because Legacy 9 was released just one week after I purchased the Legacy 8 software, which was thankfully not a problem ($8 to upgrade).

Geoff Rasmussen presented a quick overview of new features in Legacy 9 with "What's New in Legacy Family Tree 9"on April 18, 2017.

In this quick video, you will be introduced to the new features in the recently-released Legacy Family Tree 9 software.

Cleaning Up My Master Locations List on Legacy

Look at all the ways I have Painesville displaying in my records!  These need to be standardized for a more efficient database.

I want to have a database of information that sorts into reports that I can use to take my genealogy to the next level, like analyzing all the people who lived in a certain place.  I see now that I have to make sure that the locations list is all cleaned up for this to work.

This is tiresome work, particularly because I want to make sure my Ancestry tree is standardized.  We are continuously working through Ancestry to do research and I want my future gedcoms I download from that service to be very clean.

Finally Broke Down and Bought Legacy Family Tree Genealogy Software

I broke down and bought the Legacy 8.0 Legacy Family Tree program, since it is highly rated.  I have relied on the Ancestry online program, which is fantastic, but I want to do more customized analysis, like where grouping together people by where they lived.  Now I can do that!
