Sunday Drive: USS California

Last Friday was the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the USS California was one of the ships sunk by enemy bombs on that terrible day in 1941. But that wasn't the end of the California, she was raised, repaired and rebuilt and returned to service. You can read about her history here.

I'm not sure when this shot of the California was taken here in San Diego, but from its place in the photo album I think it was probably in the early 1920s.

By coincidence, I've done some research in the past on her first captain, Henry J. Ziegemeier, because he was the father of a good friend of mine's mother-in-law. Small world!
