i4gg Conference is February 2 & 3

Wow, I haven't posted for about six months!  Since last June my husband retired, a beloved cat died, and I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer (complete with lumpectomy, radiation, and tamoxifen).

I've worked on my tree almost every day, but didn't put aside any time to do blog posts until things had settled down.

I've also been keeping an eye on the DNA Doe Project (also Wikipedia article "DNA Doe Project"):

DNA Doe Project (AKA DNA Doe Project, Inc. or DDP) is an American non-profit volunteer organization formed to identify unidentified deceased persons (commonly known as John Doe or Jane Doe) using forensic genealogy. Volunteers identify victims of automobile accidents, homicide, and unusual circumstances, and persons who committed suicide under an alias.[1] The group was founded in 2017 by Colleen Fitzpatrick and Margaret Press.

I love being able to see all the cases being solved!

Some of the people who are involved in this are almost certainly at the Institute for Genetic Genealogy (i4gg) conference.

I don't know the details behind the change in time and venue of this conference (it used to be in San Diego in December and now it is in Las Vegas in February), but fortunately for those of us who can't be there in person they have the option to purchase the videos of the sessions.  The videos have historically come out a number of months after the conference, so my guess is they will be available by the summer.

San Diego i4gg Conference Coming Up--Don't Forget to Register!

I'll be there both days.

Speakers will include CeCe Moore and Blaine Bettinger (huge names in this field) and more to be announced soon, and if last year is any indication then there will be some amazing workshops demonstrating the latest genetic genealogy methodologies.  You can purchase last years video workshops, and see the lineup of speakers last year here.

Another big name is Kitty Cooper--she is also excited about the upcoming event.

Don't Forget to Sign Up for the San Diego 2017 International Genetic Genealogy Conference (Dec 9-10, 2017)

The Institute for Genetic Genealogy (i4gg) and the DNA Detectives are bringing experts in the latest methodologies to San Diego, December 9 and 10, 2017.  I went last year and learned a lot.  A bonus for getting the two days was access to videos of the lectures given last year, very helpful for repeated viewing.

I already signed up early last month.  Since it is just down the road from me I won't have to book a room, but if you are from out of town you can get a room at the Sheraton Mission Valley.

Finally! The Video of the Genetic Genealogy Conference from October 2016 in San Diego Has Arrived!

I attended the Institute for Genetic Genealogy (i4gg) conference in San Diego for only one day (I fell ill after the first night), but since Dear Mother had paid for the two-day pass with a promise of full video of the conference to follow later, all was not lost.  Now that the videos are finally available I am excited to review what both what I learned the first day, and I can also see what I missed on the second day.

Unfortunately, I cannot share the link/access to those videos with my readers, but I am looking forward to reviewing them and using new techniques with my DNA results.

Nice Find: "Colleen Fitzpatrick - CSI meets Roots"

Between applying some new ideas I got from attending the Institute for Genetic Genealogy's conference here in San Diego last Saturday, and binge watching Forensic Files on Amazon Prime, I've gained a new appreciation in the last few days for a systematic analysis of small but important details to solve mysteries.

I often wonder if those into genealogy are also interested in forensic science used to solve crimes?  Silly question...

I'm Going to the 2016 i4gg Conference Next Month!

While I continue to wait impatiently for my Bettinger/Wayne DNA workbook I'm happy to report that my dear mother has bought me a two day pass to the upcoming 2016 International Genetic Genealogy Conference (sponsored by the Institute for Genetic Genealogy) right here in San Diego.  I just have to drive down the road--no extensive traveling needed!
