Family Friday: Grenfell/Weisman

Bernice Evangeline Grenfell Currey, the mother who raised me, was the middle child between two boys. Her older brother Gilbert Wilfred Grenfell (1901-1928) married Florence Kristine Weisman (1900-1985) on October 25, 1924 in Deadwood, South Dakota. The couple had two children before Gilbert's death which occurred when an eroded stream bank next to the field he was plowing collapsed, causing the tractor to roll over, crushing him.

Sunday Drive: Deadwood Parade, 1953

I think that by now all the vehicles in this photo would be welcome in a parade (if cleaned up a bit) but in the early 1950s this horseless carriage was the only one to qualify.

During our visit to Mother's father in South Dakota in 1953, Dad took a lot of pictures at the Deadwod parade and I plan to post some more of them in coming weeks.
