Sunday Drive: On the South Fork of the Platte River - 1953

If you look closely, on the far side of the river you'll be able to see the mounted farmer on whose land our trailer was parked coming to look us over.

Tired after a drive that included braving the streets of Denver, Dad asked permission to stay in a wooded pasture overnight but the farmer had an earlier bad experience with squatters and I'm sure he wanted to reassure himself that we weren't going to cause any trouble. Apparently our rig with its shiny new trailer allayed his fears--and I got a ride!

Later that evening we visited he and his wife, taking along some of the Navajo jewelry bought at the Trading Post for her to choose something as a token of our gratitude.

And the next morning we were on our way to the Grenfell place in South Dakota.
