Here's maternal grandparents Harry Allen Slater and Anna Delilah Webb picnicking (or something) in a meadow above the Colorado Chautauqua at Boulder with their dog Freddy the wire-haired terrier, probably in the 1930s.

That was great! I didn't know about the Colorado Chataqua, although I know about the movement and the famous one in New York. I don't think that's a wire hair terrier, and I don't think they are picnicking unless they are feasting on straw. I think they have harvested some plant and are planning to make it into something! Very interesting post.
I didn't know about it either but there are several mentions of it in captions to Slater photos. I agree that my grandparents are mostly likely harvesting something. As to Freddy, the note for the photo says that's what he was...
